Chemical tanker leak hospitalises three

Source: Porworld
Four workers in Mexico responding to a chemical tanker leak were overcome and three of them have been hospitalised, reports said.

The four Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) personnel were attending to the 2000-built 12,716 dwt Lacandon at Pemex Refining's Pajaritos Marine Terminal in Coatzacoalcos.

According to Pemex, the chemical tanker was discharging at the terminal when it experienced a release of some of its cargo of styrene monomer.

Pemex said that discharging operations from the tanker was suspended and it deployed safety personnel to control the spill.

The Mexican state oil major however, did not give an indication of how much styrene monomer was spilled.

Pemex added that the spill was controlled within hours while authorities have been alerted.

The Singapore-flagged Lacandon's registered owner is Singapore's Orange Maritime Pte Ltd. It is managed by Singapore's Executive Ship Management and is group owned and operated by Japan's Setsuyo Kisen Co Ltd.
