Davao City (13 March) -- In keeping with the present-day sensitivities on environmental issues specifically on maritime pollution, a training on Anti-Maritime Pollution was held recently conducted by Golden Dragon International Inc., the PPA-licensed outfit tasked to provide services nationwide that are related to maritime wastes collection.

The enactment of the Maritime Pollution Law or known widely as MARPOL is in accordance with the UN Convention Law of the Sea which the Philippines is among the signatories.

The conduct of the training is in support of the objectives of International Maritime Organization Convention Marpol 73/78 to reduce marine pollution by controlling or prohibiting illegal discharge of waste from ships and to ensure that ship-generated wastes are properly collected, treated and disposed of in environmentally sound ways and in accordance with existing standards and laws.

Santillan, Port Manager, have issued guidelines to all Shipping Companies/Agencies, Private Port Operators and Owners regarding compulsory disposal of garbage and wastes from the vessel into the Shore Reception Facility (SRF) installed in the port.
